About Us

Maverick perspective: fresh, bold with no conflicts of interest.

Founded in 2020 by Tim Hoiles, The Maverick Observer is a news source for Colorado Springs, El Paso County and Colorado. Sprung from a deep history in media, we not only discuss politics, but we also have a passion for food, drinks, business, and views. Commercial media interests, conflicts of interest in ownership and the pursuit of ratings and readership have distorted our news.  We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and are committed to conflict-of-interest-free news.  We may take a perspective, but we will never ignore, cancel, or omit the other side.  We hope you find our information useful, enlightening, and entertaining. Who does not need a good belly laugh occasionally? Come engage with us on all the topics of the day, whether they are the hottest tacos or the latest decisions of the Colorado Springs City Council and the Mayor.

Mission & values rooted in liberty, individual freedoms, & diversity of thought.

Our mission is to educateinformengagestimulate, and connect with our readers, while striving to preserve integrity and dignity of the news. We are all best suited when we form our own opinions, assume responsibility for our own actions, and engage in our own passions.

Vision of community engagement & differing opinions.

Our vision is community engagement and voicing differing opinions within a standard of tolerance. The Maverick Observer is devoted to our liberty and freedoms as a Fourth Estate news entity, the watchdog over government and business. We believe in the principles outlined by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the rights of all Americans as framed by the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  Our liberty and individual freedoms are what allows the diversity of thought which has been the bedrock of social, political, and commercial innovations making our world a better place for us all.

Our diverse stable of talent:

No nay-sayers in this stable, we believe to represent the people, it is important to reflect the people.  Yeah, we have mares and filles with a half century of corporate media and news experience, but, more importantly, we have a former K12 teacher with a Master’s in Education, an independent jewelry designer, a mother, and wife of a retired Special Forces Chief Warrant officer, a small business owner, a lifelong volunteer serving at risk youth who all have equal voices in The Maverick Observer.  No caste system here.

And, our hobbies and interests range from recreational photography, knitting, shotgun shooting and travel, baker extraordinaire, fast cars, eco-travel, backcountry skiing, fair trade, environmental stewardship, music to art.

Straight from the horse’s mouth, here is a bushel and a peck of the beliefs from our stable:  open communication, fairness, honesty, and hard work ethics as well as treating all people with respect, dignity, and equality, having gratitude daily. The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and belief the government should stop printing worthless money, create a budget, and limit the deficit, belief in term limits, smaller government and the Constitution as our founding fathers wrote it and belief capitalism and freedom are forces for good in the world.

Most importantly, our stable believes in you and the need to provide you with truthful and transparent news and entertainment so you can worry less and giggle more.  News and entertainment that informs and educates so you can act if you feel the need.

We are a stable of diverse mavericks who celebrate different views and lifestyles — because that’s what our founding fathers gave us — the freedom to be different yet united, charting our individual paths towards happiness.
