Silver Key Senior Services and Pikes Peak Senior News have partnered to bring Colorado Springs area seniors, friends and family the first annual Senior Summit. The event will be held on June 15 at The Antlers in downtown Colorado Springs. The daylong event kicks off with an optional benefit breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m.

Why a Senior Summit Event?

Jayme Holligan, Director of Volunteer Events and Community Engagements at Silver Key Services, said there are several reasons for holding this expo event. “We wanted to have a premier senior event in Colorado Springs that encompassed learning, education and networking,” she said. “There will be a variety of activities for everyone who attends. We’ve been working on this event all year.”

Holligan added this event is more than an expo, it’s a summit experience. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for seniors and their families to connect with area experts and resources, learn and discuss common issues and concerns, and seek solutions to challenges that occur with aging.

What Will Be Offered?

Over 70 expo vendors and more than 30 speakers will be at the event to address a wide range of aging concerns. Barb Kunkel, Academy of Life & Leadership Taekwondo President and Olympian will be one of the many presenters. A Stage 3 breast cancer survivor, she will be addressing the topic of Staying Healthy in Our Golden Years.

Other topics presented by speakers in their designated professions include Strategies to Pay for Long-Term Care, Housing for Older Adults, Mental Health for Seniors, and Five Things to Know Before Buying a Hearing Aid among others.

Some of the 70-plus vendors and sponsors in attendance include Rocky Mountain Pace, Humana, Aetna Medicare Solutions, Classic Homes, Elite Hearing of Colorado Springs, Amazing Care Home Health Services and AARP Colorado.

Those in attendance can also receive free blood pressure, hearing, stroke and cancer screenings. In addition, home testing COVID kits will be distributed by El Paso County. Giveaways will take place throughout the event.

Cost

Attendance to the event is free – there are no fees for admission or parking. Those interested in attending the benefit breakfast will be asked to invest in the Silver Key mission through a one-time or ongoing donation. Space for breakfast is limited. “One-hundred percent of the proceeds will go toward Silver Key,” Holligan said. “The funds will be used to enhance the services we provide to the Colorado Springs seniors.”

A boxed lunch prepared by the Chef Staff at Antlers is available for $25. The lunch includes a sandwich, chips, a drink, and a cookie.
