Standards Matter
What to write about next? Two things have been engrained in my thoughts: Standards matter. Or is the tail wagging the dog?
Maybe they are similar. How? Both are tied to the thought that the left, communists and some higher education folks think that there should be no standards or that the minority should be overcompensated to equal things out. Is this not the tail wagging the dog so to speak?
Now it is up to me to connect the two issues.
How and What to Believe
People who believe in science, the Constitution or standards are being confronted by folks who do not. Whether you believe in two sexes (you wouldn’t believe how many genders there are) or black lives matter (not the Marxist organization) or you need to have a federal ID to go to a political rally (yes, for the Democrats’ get-togethers too)! What some people have lost sight of is that there are other people (including me) who have beliefs that are the EXACT opposite of them.
See, it used to be in this country that opposite views were tolerated. No longer! The “mainstream” media has become not only bad, but full of propaganda the likes of which may have only existed previously in Pravda, the Soviet newspaper. The thought police have not only become crazy, but I believe out of control!
Founding Fathers
That is a strong statement, but I will continue. The Constitution of the United States is a wonderful document even though it is not perfect. The Declaration of Independence, I believe is even better. This country, though imperfect, has provided more people of all races the opportunity to excel and have true freedom of speech and choice. Many people today would like to change that. From the depths of my being that is wrong!

We have lived in a time of paying folks to do nothing. And as parents we are expected to give our kids more than we had. Both are terrible mistakes. Give, give, give without any standards or merit involved! How much was learned by those on the receiving end? I posit not much – if anything at all!
People jonesing for change did not realize all that would happen is that one group of elitists gets exchanged for another. Do you really think this would have a meaningful impact on the day-to-day citizens? Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
What about those minority voices and what they get? In my city only .06 percent of the people ride bicycles for both work and pleasure. Yet we continue to paint more stripes to make more bike lanes. We have areas of the city that still have no curbs or sidewalks. What gives?
Pandering to a Vocal Minority
Pandering to a vocal minority so the city can attract more higher-educated people, really? The mayor and the city council should be removed as they pander all the time. Cynically, that’s what politicians always do no matter what side of the aisle they are on.
Politicians are more worried about getting re-elected than representing their constituents or values. Isn’t it time we get off our duffs and change this? Only we can vote them out of office.
Lack of standards are also reflected in the property destruction in too many cities in America! What about the rule of law as an existing standard of legal conduct? It seems elected officials don’t want to even talk about it much less enforce the laws that exist. Does this border on anarchy? Yes, it does!
Shore up our own Standards
We all need to look at our own standards and return to the past to renew the ones that worked for so long. Remember, everything new is old again from the Peter Allen song? Should we stop at a stop light? Get a pilot’s license to fly a plane? Should we follow our state, county, city and even federal laws or work to change them through due process? Property destruction through “peaceful protests” that involves bricks and Molotov cocktails is the new norm. Have we descended into a sub-human culture?
Only time will tell, but the if history is a teacher, the future is uncertain. When people believe that destroying buildings and harming others is an acceptable lifestyle for achieving their beliefs. It could lead to a very sad state of affairs. I believe we need to stop letting the tail wag the dog and enforce the standards.
But remember what Thoreau wrote in 1854? “Those that have been bred in the school of politics fail now and always to face the facts.”
