Tapas – Penelope Casas

Penelope Casas, who introduced the classic little dishes of Spain to American cooks more than twenty years ago, now gives us a splendidly updated edition of that seminal book—with fifty exciting new recipes and eight full pages of new color photographs showing tapas in all their glory.

STAFF THOUGHTS:

Some folk might need to try more exposure to the wonderful food of Spain. It is a large and varied country with many different and unique flavors by location.

The Pintxo Trail – Josema Azpeitia & Ritxar Tolosa

Josema Azpeitia and Ritxar Tolosa, authors of “The Pintxos Trail” in San Sebastian, travel to Pamplona to bring you another selection of establishments dedicated to one of the most interesting expressions of Basque gastronomy: pintxos, or miniature cuisine. This guide features 70 bars and restaurants, their best pintxos, their recipes and the people who have added their grain of sand by the day to making this city a reference not to be missed when setting out on the search for culinary treasures.

STAFF THOUGHTS:

A great little overview of the stick appetizers from, San Sebastian, Spain. Any special ingredients can be found at Le Tienda online at www.tienda.com.

The Barbecue Bible – Steven Raichlen

Anything and everything you ever wanted to learn about barbecuing is in the 10th anniversary of The Barbecue! Bible. It includes full-color photographs illustrating food preparation, grilling techniques, ingredients, and of course those irresistible finished dishes. A new section has been added with answers to the most frequently asked grilling questions, plus Steven’s proven tips, quick solutions to common mistakes, and more.

STAFF THOUGHTS:

A wonderful and funny teacher who knows more about BBQ than any other person I have met. He has given classes at The Broadmoor and his books include recipes from all over the world. Yes, really!

On a side note, if you’ve never attempted to BBQ before, consider reading “A Beginner’s Guide to the Perfect Barbeque” article at Own the Grill. It breaks down the nuances of barbequing and hits all the needed information for a successful meal.
