Grandma Ziggy’s Stuffing is a recipe you need in your rotation at Thanksgiving and all year round.

Background: I’ve tried many stuffing recipes, but nothing compares to my Grandma Ziggy’s Stuffing. Sauteed mushrooms and onions teamed up with savory sausage to make this side dish the star of the show. Every time I make it, I always get requests for the recipe. Up until now, I’ve never taken the time to document the specific recipe. Our family does a lot of eye-balling and estimations – if you know, you know. Trust me when I say that you need to try this one out!

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cook sausage in a large saucepan. Add sausage to a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  3. Melt butter in the same large saucepan you cooked the sausage in over medium-high heat. Add onions and mushrooms to pan and saute for 4-5 minutes. Add sage, rosemary, parsley, thyme, salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  4. Pour mushroom and onion mixture into the large mixing bowl with the cooked sausage and stir until well combined.
  5. Add your stuffing mix to the large mixing bowl, along with water (per stuffing instructions). You may need to scale back the water slightly to account for the grease. I typically do about a cup of water.
  6. Add beaten egg to the mixture and stir until combined.
  7. Use non-stick spray to prep your pan. Pour stuffing mixture into the prepared pan and cover with foil. Bake for one hour. Serve immediately.
