- 2 ounces rye whiskey
- 1 sugar cube or 1 teaspoon simply syrup
- 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 teaspoon water
- Orange twist for garnish
Place sugar cube in mixing glass, douse with bitters, then add a spoonful of water. Make a slurry with bar spoon or muddler. Add rye and stir until sugar dissolves. (Skip water and slurry phase if using simple syrup.) Add ice and stir until chilled. Strain into an Old-Fashioned glass over fresh ice. Squeeze orange twist to express oils, then drop in glass.
