The Black-Eyed Susan cocktail is the official drink of the Preakness Stakes.

Background: The Triple Crown races are here and we are making the Black-Eyed Susan cocktail, which is the official drink of the Preakness Stakes. Although the name is peculiar, the Black-Eyed Susan was named after the Maryland state flower which is used to make the celebratory blanket that’s draped over the winning horse at the Preakness Stakes. There have been many adjustments to this cocktail over the years, but is typically made with bourbon, vodka, and peach schnapps. The recipe can be made into bigger batches that can be poured from a pitcher for easier summertime entertaining.

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour the bourbon, vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice, and sour mix into the ice filled cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake well and strain over ice into a glass.
  3. Garnish with an orange slice and cherry. Serve and enjoy!
