Silver Key Senior Services and Pikes Peak Senior News have partnered to bring Colorado Springs area seniors, friends and family the first annual Senior Summit. The event will be held June 15 at The Antlers in downtown Colorado Springs. The daylong event kicks off with an optional benefit breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m.

Last month, residents and nonprofit organizations were shocked when the Colorado Springs Indy announced that the newspaper would no longer be working with the IndyGive! Campaign, which the Indy’s publishing company launched over a decade ago.

Usually, the fire season in Colorado does not start until summer is closer. However, this year has already brought about weather conditions that have created high fire dangers across the state.

After operating successfully for almost an entire school year, the “no politics” Merit Academy in Woodland Park celebrated accomplishing their first year despite many setbacks. After their first school year in existence, Merit’s staff decided to hold an event in their hometown, which sold all 150 tickets available.

Residents of Colorado are familiar with the changes that come with each season – and are becoming increasingly familiar with a year-round fire season. While typically worst during the months of May through August; due to ongoing drought issues wildland fires can start at any time and any place.

Skiing has always been part of the family business with the Uhls at Ski Shop Inc. in Colorado Springs. Current owner Rick Uhl took over the shop from his parents Wolf and Julie in 2002. They had purchased the business in 1981. The shop, as a business though, has been thriving and evolving for nearly 65 years.

Simone Severo translates the “light” stuff for skin tones which usually photographed too bright or too dark. In her 15 years as a dark skin photographer, she has captured the images of Asian, African American, Native American, Kenyan, Vietnamese, and other dark skin nationalities.
