The Mint Julep is the official cocktail of the Kentucky Derby!

Background: The Triple Crown kicked off with Mint Juleps in hand! The simplicity of bourbon, simple syrup, and mint is just perfection. Not only is it the official cocktail of the Kentucky Derby, the Mint Julep is an excellent drink for summer. Traditionally they are served in a silver or pewter cup, or a Mint Julep Souvenir Glass, but any rocks glass will do.

  1. In a cup or glass, lightly muddle the mint leaves in the simple syrup.
  2. Add the bourbon then pack the glass tightly with crushed ice.
  3. Stir until the cup is frosted on the outside.
  4. Top the more crushed ice to form a dome. Garnish with mint sprig or a couple drops of bitters.
