Background: This Orange Brulee Bourbon cocktail is delicious! The Woodford Reserve Bourbon and orange flavor are perfect together. Caramelizing the oranges and then adding bourbon, ginger and orange juice highlight the best of summer and create a wonderfully refreshing cocktail. Combine with Costa Rican-style Shrimp Ceviche for a impromptu get-together.

  • 2 ounces Woodford Reserve Bourbon
  • 1/2 ounce sherry or Madeira
  • 1/2 ounce Ginger Liqueur
  • 1/8 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 Navel Orange
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  1. To prepare the orange slices, slice the orange into approximately 1/8″ slices. In a medium skillet, combine the water and sugar and bring to a boil. Add the orange slices and cook over moderate heat, turning them occasionally, until the liquid is reduced to a thin syrup and the orange slices are translucent about 20 minutes. Reduce the heat to moderately low and simmer until the syrup is thick and the slices are tender but still intact, turning occasionally for about 10 minutes. Transfer the orange slices to a rack to cool. Reserve the syrup for another use.
  2. To make the cocktail, Combine bourbon, orange juice, sherry, and ginger liqueur in a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice cubes. Shake vigorously until the shaker is ice cold and then strain the cocktail over ice (we like the large ice balls) into a rocks glasses. Garnish the drink with an orange slice.
