Barrel aged Manhattan

My husband and I enjoyed a cocktail before dinner at our favorite restaurant, the Salt Grass in Colorado Springs. He looks forward to having the special Salt Grass’ Barrel-aged Manhattan made with Angels Envy bourbon aged in port wine barrels each time we go. So, of course he ordered one. We asked the bartenders if we could get the recipe for this specialty drink and mention both the restaurant and our bartender’s name. Given the go ahead, I took copious notes and a short video of the “secret” 20 times stir technique.

To make your own barrel-aged Manahattan, add following ingredients to your white oak cask. (Perhaps a great Christmas gift for the Manhattan lover on your list). At the restaurant our bartender, Brent, noted that they age the below concoction for about a week.

Now, the secret to making the Salt Grass Manhattan perfect! Once you have aged the three above, pour 2&1/2 oz over ice. STIR – not disturbing the ice by placing the spoon next to the inside glass and stirring 20 times against the glass, as demonstrated by Bartender Brent.

Garnish with Italian Amarena Filthy Black Cherry (or two) and a lemon peel.

ENJOY!
