I heard a word this morning on Fox News, during an interview with Steve Forbes, and I had no idea what it meant. The word was “fabulist”, defined as “a person who composes or relates fables or a liar, especially a person who invents elaborate, dishonest stories.” In my family that would be my Uncle Bobby on my dad’s side, but we called him a storyteller, defined as “a person who tells stories.”
What has happened to our ability to tell the truth or to call it what it is? If someone is lying, call them a liar. It is direct, simple, and to the point. No sugar coating or beating around the bush. The person immediately understands your point of view and your feelings about their comments.
But make sure they are lying and there lies the problem. We have gotten use to skewed truths that are partially factual and partially embellished for our viewing pleasure. We need to get back to a time when we knew the difference between Uncle Bobby’s storytelling or our politicians’ lies.
