I am very disappointed about the recent city council election and I need to put a lot of blame on myself. The Maverick Observer did not do enough to point out the major issues plaguing the city and council since 2006?
2006 is the year the city of Colorado Springs, along with the support of the city council members, started approving Special Districts in earnest. Since then and maybe even before, the Home Builders Association (HBA) and Nor’Wood have contributed to the campaigns of city council members. Nor’Wood also had a hand in creating the strong mayor position in Colorado Springs, a travesty I highlighted in my Sept. 2nd article, “Tim’s Topics: City Council Frustration and Authority.”
This year at least 5 of the 9 council seats received contributions from HBA and Nor’Wood. Do the math. That gives these folks control and that is what they want. I promise you The Maverick Observer will do more during the next city council election.
One more thing. A question to the entire city council. Do you believe you have a right to pick winners and losers in Colorado Springs businesses? I do not believe you do. By giving tax incentives to new businesses, such as Scheels, you say to existing businesses up yours, you won’t be able to compete fairly with these guys.
Stop it, please.
