Colorado Springs City Council debated a resolution opposing the legalization of Recreational Cannabis (Questions 300 and 301) for approximately two hours during the regular city council meeting on Oct 11th. What a waste of time!
Unless city council members were trying to send a secret message to the citizens of their position on this November question, it was a total waste of time. When Dave Donelson compared recreational marijuana shops to McDonald’s and Starbucks, I lost the point of the resolution and what he hoped to accomplish.
During citizen’s comments, Jarmin Johnson asked how many liquor stores were in the city. The answer was roughly 1000 licenses issued. That comparison made sense to me.
City council has more important items to debate like fire evacuation, potholes, crumbling infrastructure, and unaffordable housing, to name a few. This resolution will have no impact on the November question and just may embolden the citizen to vote yes on both questions.
