Caution Slippery Politicians

I do not care what you think, but I believe it is WAAAAAY past time to start holding elected officials and bureaucrats accountable for telling the truth with character and honesty. This sounds like a simple issue. It is not. Because of the lack of character almost all the folks in government-speak in political jargon instead of answering questions directly.

I personally know some people in government both, elected and employed, that have the propensity to never tell the truth. They do not always outright lie but they do not openly respond to those citizens that are outside of the club. The club of junior high folks.

Don’t you remember the junior high days of being special because you are with the in-group? The problem with the in-group or club mentality is government people OWE a responsibility to those who are governed. In short, they work for us.

Use that phrase with elected officials and bureaucrats and watch many of them bristle. I have seen this quite often in my past profession as a member of the newspaper media, the Fourth Estate.

Is there hope?

What can be done about this? I do not believe there is a simple answer, but the folks at The Center for Self-Governance are at least trying. They are training folks in all aspects of liberty and involvement.

Their mission statement says “CSG partners with you and your community to NORMALIZE systematic politics, REINSTATE layer cake federalism, and ELEVATE your State constitution by increasing your political influence, improving your networking skills, and expanding your personal growth and development.” They also contract with politicians of any persuasion to try to make them understand the serious nature of their job. It does not always work but at least they are implementing an attempt to corral the folks in the clubs.

For what it is worth, the bottom line is that character, truth and honesty are tantamount to the survival of our Republic. We see all too often the result of their nonexistence in today’s world. We need to look for individuals that value these three attributes in their daily lives to bring sanity and order back into our world.
