BBQ Chicken Ring

Background: This BBQ Chicken Ring is a variation of our family favorite Taco Ring. The barbeque chicken and crescent dough make a great team! You can customize this recipe by adding in your own toppings. We like to add grilled red onion, jalapenos, and avocado, but the possibilities are endless. This is a perfect recipe for dinner or entertaining!

  • 1 oven-roasted chicken from your local deli or 2 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 8 ounce cans refrigerated crescent rolls – we like Pillsbury honey butter crescents
  • 1 cup barbeque sauce, plus more for serving
  • 2 cups freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • everything bagel seasoning
  • parchment paper
  • optional toppings: red onion, jalapenos, slaw or avocado
  1. Shred cooled deli chicken by hand. Or if using chicken breasts, cook in the crock pot on high for 2-3 hours or low for 4-6 hours. Trim chicken and place on the bottom of your crock pot. Dilute one cup of your favorite BBQ sauce with 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon onion powder. Mix together and pour over chicken breasts. Cover and cook.
  2. Shred chicken with forks in the crock pot or on a plate. If using deli chicken, in a large bowl, mix 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce with chicken until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  4. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Separate and unroll each crescent roll. Arrange dough on baking sheet in a circle (sunburst pattern), starting with the wider end of each dough triangle, overlapping the edges as you go.
  5. Sprinkle half the cheese in an even layer on crescent dough. Then top with chicken, remaining cheese and any other toppings you want to include. If chicken mixture is runny, use a slatted spoon to reduce the amount of liquid going to your ring.
  6. Once you’ve added everything to your ring, fold the crescent dough over, forming a ring. Melt butter and brush over ring. Sprinkle with a generous portion of everything bagel seasoning.
  7. Bake 18-22 minutes or until dough is golden brown. Let stand five minutes before slicing and serving.
